2018 Energy Symposium
Tuesday, April 24, 2018
3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Western Washington University, Wilson Library Reading Room
Western Washington University’s Institute for Energy Studies hosts an annual Energy Symposium to foster connection and idea-sharing between students and energy industry professionals. The 2018 Energy Symposium will be a hackathon. A hackathon is an event where a group of people engage in intense brainstorming sessions to develop creative solutions to challenging problems.
For this hackathon, the challenge is this:
An environmental philanthropist wants to invest $10 million to creatively reduce carbon emissions in Washington State. The philanthropist wants to fund something that has never been done in Washington State—and is looking for proposals from five different sectors:
- Personal Mobility
- Goods Movement
- The Grid
Five teams of Western students will develop proposals in response to this challenge—in just one day! The students will be mentored throughout the day by top thought leaders from Puget Sound Energy, Amazon, Trane, the City of Seattle, A&R Solar, Western faculty and other professionals.
We are pleased to welcome faculty, students, and community members to watch student teams present their final proposals, enjoy a keynote address by KC Golden of Climate Solutions, and then celebrate the winning hackathon teams.
