  • Reason for Choosing This Site:
    • The source, PBS, is a great public television website and also has a partnership with WGBH whom is a member of Nation Public Radio Station (NPR). PBS has been around since 1969 and is known to be a very reputable source. Within the website, there are many different items related to bullying, including videos, worksheets, and activities. This particular link in the site is a classroom activity specific to an interactive activity for students to participate in that is also educational. In the activity students take a piece of paper and write nice descriptors on the paper about how nice and lovely the paper is. Then, students crumpled the piece of paper as much as they can. After this, the teacher requests students to unravel the paper and now describe how the paper looks. When students come to a conclusion the teacher will ask students to apologize to the paper and then prompt questions to the students about whether the paper will ever be the same again. The end of the activity has students sit and create a reflection about what they learned in this interactive activity.
    • Core Integration:
      • I would incorporate this activity during bullying awareness week in my school. As an instructor I would provide the foundational guidelines of the activity to the students but aim to use prompting/discovery questions to get students to have a discussion. I would use questions such as “what has changed about the paper?”, “can we do anything to bring the paper back to its original self?” or “what does this irreversible change tell us about the effects of bullying?”. These questions would also be on a student reflection worksheet that I would have students do for homework. This could be incorporated into our language arts part of the day and be given as language arts homework for students to practice their writing.

Site Name: Teaching Students to Prevent Bullying – Curriculum Resources Address Identifying, Confronting and Stopping Bullying

Image result for National Education Association

  • Reason For Choosing This Site:
    • The specific page is from the National Education Association (NEA) website whose goal is “to advocate for education professionals and to unite members and the nation to fulfill the promise of education to prepare every student to succeed in a diverse and interdependent world”. This particular tab on the website includes specific lessons plans, activities, games, and quizzes related to the prevention of bullying and also includes appropriate grade levels per category.
    • From my research, this website was one of the most reputable sources for teachers to use. Even more so, within each category there are multiple plans that teachers can use depending on what kind of lesson they want to incorporate in their classroom. Each lesson includes a detailed description of what steps to take and many different additional options that can be chosen to personalize the lesson plan. Total there are 6 lesson plans, 3 activities, 1 game, and 3 quizzes. Each one also articulates how long it will take to complete. What makes this website the most interesting is the variety of tasks that the teacher can pick from and use with their own teaching style.
  • NHES Applicable:
    • NHES 1: “Students will comprehend concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention to enhance health.”
      • V1.12.11 Explain how bystanders can help prevent violence by reporting dangerous situations or actions.

      • V4.8.3 Demonstrate effective negotiation skills to avoid or reduce violence.

    • HBO 9: “Get help to prevent or stop violence including harassment, abuse, bullying, hazing, fighting, and hate crimes.”
  • Core integration:
    • I would incorporate this website into my classroom by selecting one of the lesson plans that is recommended on the website. One specific lesson plan on the website is called “No Place for Bullies” which includes the objectives of having students reflect on a scenario, learn about potential effects of bullying, respond to discussion questions, and suggest their own guidelines and methods as to how to combat bullying and prevent it, in any environment. The following lesson plan “No Place for Bullies” (hyperlinked) aligns with 3 content standards in English Language Arts Standards: Speaking & Listening for Grade 6.
  • Connection to English Language Arts Standards (CCSM): Speaking & Listening

Internet Source for Parents:

Site Name: STOMP out Bullying – Parents Page

Image result for Stomp bullying

  • Reason for Choosing This Site:
    • I think STOMP Out Bullying is the best website for parents to learn about bullying and bullying prevention. STOMP Out Bullying is “the leading national bullying and cyberbullying prevention organization for kids and teens in the U.S.”. The organization has a parents page that includes a vast list of information to help with their children. Some of these include: What to do if your child is being bullied and resources, what to do if your kids witness bullying, what to do if your child is a bully, understanding why kids bully,  signs your child is being bullied, signs your child is a cyberbully victim, and many more. Each one includes a detailed description of what these behaviors look like and include, as well as to provide insight as to what action(s) the parent can take to help their child.
    • In my classroom, I would hand out a flyer for students to take home to their parents with the information of this website, including the examples of topics that are listed above so parents can have an idea about what the website includes. I would also send out a class wide email to parents in the classroom to ensure that every parent had access to this information. If I had a classroom website with my school district, I would also include this website on the resources page.
