Cancer on Campus

Did you know that Western Washington University is not a smoke free campus? The only regulation in place is that you cannot smoke within 20 ft of a building’s entrance. Whether you’re a smoker or not this impacts you being a WWU student. Tobacco is the main contributing factor to lung cancer, which is the biggest killer among all kinds of cancer. This public service announcement talks about the impacts of our campus not being smoke free and encourages you to do yourself and your community a big favor!

  1. I love how you focused this video to our campus! It made it very relate-able and makes me want to take action! Great job 🙂

  2. This was a really well made PSA and I’m glad you guys are so proud of it! I wonder what you guys used to get Savannah to smoke or was that a real cigarette? Great call to action for students on campus, but i didn’t know we didn’t have any designated smoking spots.

  3. Very informative, while also being entertaining. The music at the end was a plus and I like that your whole group was in the video.

  4. I liked how you presented your video in a “news-like” form. I also liked how you targeted it specifically towards WWU.

  5. Oscar worthy performance! Very informative and to the point with a great level of seriousness. Way to take one for the team Tyler .

  6. I was under the impression that there were certain areas on campus where students could smoke. It is concerning to find out that students can smoke anywhere on our campus and potentially impact the health of those around them.

  7. I loved that all of the group members were in it! I think it was very brave and also very fun for all of you to actually partake in smoking and show the immediate effects (slow-mo of Erica coughing!).
    Great Job!

  8. I like how you gave a lot of information but still made it kind of fun and interesting. Loved that everyone broke their cigarettes in half at the end!

  9. Really awesome PSA! I liked the style and it was definitely very relevant to the target audience. I had never really thought about how there aren’t any smoking areas on campus and how that effects people.

  10. Very informative. Relatable topic especially to college students. I didn’t realize that you could smoke anywhere on campus. Can be very helpful for WWU students.

  11. I really liked this video! Great information about our campus and how it is not a smoke free campus! Nice acting too!

  12. I really liked your video and how well it flowed! It was interesting and kept my attention the entire time. Your points are very valid, the walk ways in campus can be very narrow and I always HATE walking behind people who are smoking!! Great job overall!

  13. I like that you made a point to show people smoking in close proximity. It drives me nuts when I’m walking behind someone and they are smoking and blowing it all over the place and you have to walk through it >:/

  14. I like the approach to this topic which was in a news report. It targeted college age students especially the students on campus. Very relevant and good content!

  15. I really liked how you all staged this PSA as a news report! You did a good job tying it to Western’s campus and making it interesting. I learned some new information in a fun way. Thanks!

  16. Cancer PSA,

I thought you all did a good job and explaining the causes and affects of cancer that comes from smoking. Also, I thought it was cool how you specifically directed it towards the WWU campus rather than college-aged adults around the world. Overall, really well done job on video production and providing good information for everyone.

  17. I like the focus on how Western is not a smoke-free campus and how that can influence the health of both smokers and nonsmokers. I also like how all members of you group were a part of the video. Awesome Job!

  18. You guys did a wonderful job, really good information and i especially enjoyed the breaking news story template, it was very unique and memorable.

  19. I really liked the format you used for your video. It looked like a news video and that was really cool. I liked all of the shots on campus. I also liked the perspective you took for cancer because many people our age aren’t thinking about cancer, but a lot of people on this campus are smoking.

  20. I like how it was almost like a news video. It was easy to watch because it was funny and really applicable. I think maybe mentioning the smoking poles would be a good idea! Good work!

  21. I found it very creative how you decided to do your PSA as a news channel info type of thing. Your information was well communicated and I learned some stuff I didn’t know…or maybe I knew and just forgot…like, there is no safe tobacco at all. I already knew that not smoking reduces your risk of lung cancer, because smoking doesn’t have any benefits so if you don’t smoke, your reducing your risk for a lot of things 🙂

  22. Loved this! I liked how you incorporated the theme with your video like it was a legitimate news broadcasting episode! I thought all of your actors and actresses did a fabulous job. I especially liked the scene where they are all tearing the cigarettes in two pieces! I can tell you spent a good amount of time working on this! I think you all did an amazing job! 🙂

  23. I really liked how y’all made it specific to our campus. I also liked how y’all made it like a news cast, very clever.

  24. The formate of your psa is great! Full of good information and I liked the news-esque formate, subtitles, and the end where you all snap the cigarettes in half.
