Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU)

Every year, eight students from around the country spend the summer at the Shannon Point Marine Center in Anacortes, Washington working on a research project with a faculty or staff mentor as part of the National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates program. Travel to and from the marine lab, housing, and a stipend are provided. For more information or to apply, please visit our REU website by clicking here.

Research Experiences for Western Washington University Undergraduates

There are frequently opportunities for WWU students to assist with research projects in Dr. Van Alstyne’s lab. Students participating in these projects may receive research credit through their home department (usually MACS, BIOL, or ESCI). They may be able to count this work towards their internship or capstone requirements. Students working in Dr. Van Alstyne’s lab will need their own transportation to and from the Shannon Point Marine Center in Anacortes and will need to have the better part of a weekday free in their schedules. Please contact Dr. Van Alstyne at kathyva@wwu.edu if you are interested in working in her lab.
