Art 397M Super 8 Filmmaking and the Neo-Retro

This course will be a three-week intensive that covers the principles of manual motion picture filmmaking, against the backdrop of understanding the contemporary socio-political and capital fascination with nostalgia, resulting in a deeper awareness of where these images come from, how they are made, and the way they are used to shape and market in contemporary society. Topics include: basics of photography as applied to manual filmmaking, exposure to contemporary filmmakers, generating images (moving and still) within conceptual frameworks which respond to contemporary issues. Super 8mm Cameras will be checked out to you. Repeatable to a maximum of 12 credits, including original course.
