Photography has been a creative outlet and medium to document the realities of everyday life since its inception – throughout peaceful times and in war. This has once again become apparent with the sobering work of Alexander Glyadyelov in his new showcase at The Polygon Gallery: Gathering Darkness.

Alexander Glyadyelov, 2022

“Russia declared war on Ukraine, a peaceful nation, on February 24, 2022… Since that first day, Glyadyelov has photographed the constant tensions that have defined everyday life in the warzone: quietude and chaos, life and death, home and hell.”

Glyadyelov has been documenting Russia’s military aggression toward Ukraine since 2014, and has a career spanning over three decades as a Ukrainian documentary photographer. This exhibition is being shown from May 12 to July 3rd, 2022, at the Polygon Gallery in Vancouver, BC.
