April 17 – May 31, 2023
FI 2nd floor – 202 Exhibition Space
This show is a collaborative effort of both the ART 370 Black and White Photography 1 class and the ART 373 Alternative Photography Process class. The results are a collection of both black and white prints and dark blue cyanotype prints, thus the title Black and Blue!
Inspired by Claude Cahun’s famous quote “Under this mask, another mask. I will never finish removing all these faces” (Claude Cahun 1930), ART 370 students worked as groups to make masked portraits where they were encouraged to use props, set design, and performance to explore the prompt above.
The ART 373 students were encouraged to use a digital negative to create abstract or representational images. They printed with cyanotype on multiple different materials, ranging from a paper bag, a t-shirt and even a wooden cutting board.
The result of these processes for both classes has resulted in a beautiful show that you could see on the Fine Art’s building second floor in the exhibition space near room 202. The works will be up from April 17th to May 31, 2023.
The show features the creative works of Samone Alberts, Elizabeth Caulfield, Aili Conley, Kady Darlington, Aiko Enomoto, Natasha Karkoski, Sakura Kellner, Ellie Lewis, Fox Lunetta, Kelsi Nosal, Aleah Pechthalt, Sierra Peone, Jada Kleinman, Jude Klemmeck, Brooklyn Miller, and Ava Weller.
Special thanks to Nathan Cranston, Elizabeth Ransom, and our curator Steph Lasater!
