Text in public places. Notices. Rules. Warnings. Labels. Menus. Plaques. Certificates and other official documentation. Historical markers. Flyers. Broadsides. Posters.

And not only text: Symbols, logos, mascots. Things which stand for other things. Wayfindings, indexations. Things which point the way, or point to other things.

Signifiers and signified. Either, or both. Signs.
