ZeNETH is very excited to announce that our work is now being done with official support from Western’s Office of Sustainability.
Western Washington University is special for many reasons. Not only are we one of the first universities nationally to offer a college directly focused on environmental studies (Huxley) we are also home to Fairhaven College which is a national leader in student driven interdisciplinary education. We are also consistently ranked as one of the most affordable and effective state schools in the country.
For 13 years Western has promoted sustainability initiatives through the on-campus Office of Sustainability. Through their research, advocacy, and effort they have launched many programs at Western. Recently, they have created partnerships with PSE and other regional companies to develop a Washington wind farm that will generate electricity to match our on campus consumption. In addition to that feat, the OS established the Sustainable Action Fund with the work of the Students for Renewable Energy which acts as a grant for student led initiatives on campus that address sustainability. Project ZeNETH is applying for the SAF to pay for our project.
Western has recently declared its plan to be carbon neutral by 2035. The OS drafted the university’s action plan and will help guide the many offices towards this necessary goal. The OS also employs students and staff focused on sustainable transportation, zero waste, energy efficiency, community resiliency, and others.
Thanks to Seth Vidana, our Campus Sustainability Manager, for helping forge this partnership. ZeNETH recognizes that our work needs to be more than just an efficient house. We have the opportunity to truly make a difference in the lives of people who seek to build a more inclusive and exciting world. Together with the Office of Sustainability, we look forward to creating a dynamic and impactful housing project that will grow the way our students at Western see sustainability in their own lives.
