Seismic streamer on the fantail of a research vessel, offshore San Diego.
A seismic streamer on the fantail of a scientific research vessel -offshore San Diego. Students sketching subduction zones on San Juan Island, and Ocean Bottom Seismometers (OBS) about to be deployed near Sitka, Alaska. Collaborators and students working together to collect data at sea.

Welcome!  You’ve found your way to the Marine Geophysics Research Group at WWU.  We use tools like seismology and high resolution seafloor mapping to explore how the shape and physical properties of the seafloor and Earth’s crust beneath can inform our understanding of earthquakes, faulting and tectonic deformation. We also study coastal processes in the Salish Sea like sediment transport and impacts of climate change, and we are helping to constrain regional faulting in Cascadia.

Check out the Research page for current projects, and Opportunities if you are a student interested in joining the lab or looking for outside experiences related to geology, geophysics or marine science.
