SINGING

I decided to create a song to represent my literacy. A lot of my life revolves around my music. Music has always been an outlet for me to express what I feel, see and come to understand. I have ever tried to capture a certain feeling or expression in hopes to relate to others that experience what is human. In recording my song, I played my ukulele, which I have been playing for around seven months now. I made the lyrics on the spot, the best way I seem to create my songs. The lyrics are centered around a young girl and what it is like to feel behind in most things. It is interesting looking back on my life and remembering a younger version of myself. I also began to think of what my little self thought I would be like at this age. I have always found singing and songwriting to be my highest form of literacy and the best way I can express myself. The way the voice and instruments blend together in something that can make you feel and move has always inspired and impressed me. I choose the Bo Barlett painting for the background of my song to represent the relationship of art and expression. My mother collects paintings and prints, and we have a Bo Barlett print in our living room. Growing up I would spend hours in front of it; admiring and gazing at its intricacy and meaning. Bo Barlett using painting and expresses scenes to capture the human essence. Growing up in a house that has always encouraged expression and the arts has influenced the kind of writer and verbal communicator I am today. My song and “video” is a story of all I am and the way I was raised.
