Mia Westerlund Roosen uses copper and concrete to create this intimate piece. She balances out the geometric form with the paint-like texture of the sculpture’s surface. Through the imperfections in the materials, Roosen emphasizes the beauty of the human body and gives the sculpture life. The reflective properties of the copper draw the viewer into the piece and its natural surroundings. Mia Westerlund Roosen describes Flank II as including, “discrete expressiveness, drawn line, sensuous surface, inherent color and wonky geometry…Then I hoped the pieces would not only be present but alive.”
