We decided to create a collage from an image of Stadium Piece in order to explore the idea of individuality in community. As a group, our task was to individually make a third of the collage, using cut up magazines, newspapers, and colored paper, which at the end would come together to be a complete collage of the piece (what you are seeing now). We wanted to show how the piece is made to be interpreted by the individual, but used as a community. Stadium Piece is one of the most frequented and used sculptures on campus and we wanted to depict the feeling of togetherness it brings to Western’s campus. Each little piece of the collage is an individual who uses, interacts, or thinks about the piece-and all these little pieces come together to be a part of it which we think is a really sweet and wholesome concept. Stadium Piece is made for individuals and through each of us it becomes a symbol of community.
