I recently stumbled upon a resource, while researching a certain PNW bird, that could help student get in touch with their historical wild-side.
The Biodiversity Heritage Library (BHL) is dedicated to biodiversity literature and historical archives and is cited as one if not the world’s largest open access digital library on the topic. Their mission sets out to :
“Inspir[e] discovery through free access to biodiversity knowledge.

The Biodiversity Heritage Library improves research methodology by collaboratively making biodiversity literature openly available to the world as part of a global biodiversity community.”
BHL is a huge database of information, with scans of historical books, records, and some of the coolest vintage natural drawings of the natural world. The site provides free access millions of pages of content, 57 million to be exact, and covers our natural history and sciences all the way back to 15th century to present.
