Module 5: Energy and Transportation
Module 5 Learning Objectives
Participants will …
- Analyze the social, economic and environmental issues associated with the use of oil
- Compare oil use among nations across the globe
- Make predictions about carbon emissions and energy sources
Introduction
In this module, we hone in on the primary source of energy fueling the US today – oil. Through a variety of online resources, we’ll consider the social, economic, and environmental issues associated with the use of this fossil fuel. We know that the U.S. uses a lot of oil/petroleum; most of this is used for transportation; and, petroleum use produces a lot of carbon emission. We need to have a solid understanding of the status quo and of this supply chain that is an integral part of our local and global societies.
