Submissions are about to open up at the Whatcom Museum for artists to send in their photography work!

The Whatcom Museum has announced an open call for Pacific Northwest nature photography, which will be displayed digitally during their upcoming exhibition National Geographic’s Greatest Wildlife Photographs. This is a wonderful opportunity for student artists to be able to go through the open call submission process, and to potentially get some experience and credit for participating in a gallery exhibition.

Submissions should open late January, so keep an eye on their webpage for updates (this webpage will update as well once more submission date/info is released)

Edit: Submissions are now OPEN!!!

Any accepted submissions will be displayed from March 9th to September 8th, 2024, during their upcoming exhibit titled National Geographic’s Greatest Wildlife Photographs, which will contain photography from National Geographic’s magazines throughout the years. The exhibition will feature the works of National Geographic photographers Steve Winter, Paul Nicklen, Michael Nichols, Beverly Joubert, and David Doubilet and many more.

Additionally, the current Whatcom Museum exhibit that is up at their lightcatcher building includes some interesting examples of photography. The works of the Bellingham National 2023 Juried Art Exhibition follow the theme of healing and repair, and several photographers, such as Neil Berkowitz and Emma Jones just to name a few, submitted some very moving pieces. Be sure to continue to check out the Whatcom Museum website for any potential photography opportunities and shows!
