Artist Statement

The story behind Mount Meru was the inspiration behind the sculpture on campus. Its cosmology forms the composition of the piece, so we decided to focus solely on that. In our video, we wanted to create a video that was cheeky in character and told the cosmology story. Our inspiration was derived from the movies created by Wes Anderson and as well as Pixar. To achieve optimum cheekiness we decided it was best to combine live action with a clay set. We were very aware of the fact that we did not know much about Mount Meru and didn’t want to take ourselves too seriously. In doing so we tried to find sources that were credible and create a storyline that allows for comedy while maintaining an understanding of Mount Meru.
