Artist Info: Robert Maki is an artist from Walla Walla, Washington, in 1938. known for his minimalist metal work. He attended Western
Washington University and graduated in 1962, receiving his Bachelor’s in Fine Arts. In 1996, he received his Master’s of Fine Arts. He taught Art, Art History, and Mechanical Drawing, after his college studies. He was named Honorary Lecturer at UW and Alumnus of the Century in Art at WWU.

Background: Curve/Diagonal is located on the northern end of WWU’s north campus between Mathes Hall and the Viking Union. It is made of steel and was installed on the WWU campus in the year 1981.

Artist Statement: The ideas we want to represent is how the passage of time, both throughout the day and one’s life change and reflect onto one’s surrounding. This concept corresponds to Maki’s intent of changing the way his sculpture is viewed throughout the day through the shadows it casts and the way light hits it.
