Hospice Home

You never know where you’re going to find an interesting artist. Over the weekend I went to visit my great grandfather in the hospice home he was in, and as I was walking around the halls I saw a series by Bonnie Jones. Her art is staged but extremely creative. There was a particular piece that really caught my eye. It was of an army uniform and a military journal. In each of her works she places real journals that she has bought from garage sales or antique stores and tells their story in the photo. Each of her photos in the hall were on sale for $350 a piece. Check her out!

Jeremy Powell

Texan photographer Jeremy Powell is an aspiring wedding and portrait photographer and he happens to be my uncle. He’s really good with his lighting set up and he’s what got my interested in purchasing my own portable lights.

There is a cool technique that can be done with a Holga similar to a panorama. But, rather than trying to line up the image edges, they are purposefully overlapped. Usually 7-8 images make up a 180° image. What you get is more of a wide angle effect, rather than a panorama.

Here is a link to a guide on how to shoot one yourself. The rest of the site has some other great tips and advice on Holgas.

Ken Rockwell Copy Cat.

Here is a photographer that I found that uses a D7000 just like myself. He lets people download the exact settings that he has on his camera to use on their’s as well. I thought this was an awesome capability. If you find a photographer you like and are having trouble getting the same effects in your photos, this would be the best way to do it. I’m sure there are other photographers like Ken Rockwell that allow fans to do this!
