Whirling Waves and Wolfbats

Printmaker, installation and performance artist Dennis McNett is at the VU Gallery! Dennis is well known for his elaborate parades, intricate screenprints and woodblocks, giant Viking ship sculptures and so much more.

The Viking Union Gallery is hosting McNett for an exhibition of prints, skateboards, tapestries, and a new custom-made Viking ship installation. If you have yet to stop by the gallery this week, Dennis and a group of art student volunteers have been working together to construct the ship and additional components for the Grand Opening Reception this Thursday, 2/3/11 from 6-8pm in the VU Gallery!

The culmination of all of this construction will take place during the reception with the unveiling of the finalized exhibit, ship, and a procession of students adorned with Nordic-inspired masks, helmets, and headdresses. This procession will end in the sacrifice of a giant war eagle pinata… Definitely an event you won’t want to miss.

If you have any questions about participating in the construction/installation process, the opening reception, or the show in general, please contact coordinator Allie Paul at asp.vu.gallery@wwu.edu!

Compiling Student Websites

Hey everybody!

If you are currently a photography and/or art student here at WWU, or a recent alumni, we want to hear from you!  The blog is in the process of creating a page of current and alumni art student websites that will be available for public access.

If you have an art website, Flickr, Tumblr, etc. that you would like us to link to, simply comment on this post with your name and we’ll start compiling the page. Hopefully this will become a rich resource which can be used by fellow art students, faculty, and more!
