I recently found vhcle Magazine online and I’m really enjoying it. It’s pretty much art, music, design, etc, with many interviews with artists. You can view whole issues on their website and download pdfs of them too.

Over a month ago, Jenessa posted a link to an article on the detainment of artist Ai Weiwei. The story continues to grow as Weiwei’s art circulates through galleries and museums without him.

I’ve always enjoyed this Photo Blog.
I not the biggest fan of Polaroid film, but I feel this blog posts some unique combinations using the format of Polaroids.
I’m just guessing, but the majority of the photos submitted are digital recreations of Polaroids. Also a large portion of the photos seem to be screen shots of pornographic films; placing these images into a faded Polaroid frame seem to give the typically vulgar images a romance and timeless vibe.
Of course they have other submission than just sexy Polaroids. There is plenty of good artworks here. Check it out, but if you don’t take well to nudity and vulgarity steer clear.

Here is another opportunity for everyone! “Open to Interpretation” is holding an open call for entries from all photographers, the theme: water’s edge. Being so close to the bay, I’m sure you guys have awesome possibilities for entries.
The winners of the image competition will be the inspiration for the literary (poetry, prose, fiction, nonfiction, etc.) portion of a book as well! Entries are due June 7!

Check out this amazing new project by Google, where they have used gigapixel cameras to allow people to view museums from around the world using immensely detailed images and panoramic views of art collections.
Western’s annual publications, Labyrinth & Jeopardy, put on by the AS Women’s Center and English Department respectively, are both currently seeking submissions of written work and visual art.
Labyrinth is a gender-inclusive visual art journal sponsored by the Women’s Center, calling for submissions around the topic of “the gray areas of identity”. Submissions are due by January 20, 2011! For more information, contact coordinator Annie Jansen at AS.Labyrinth@wwu.edu, or check out the Facebook event! Applicants have a chance to be included in both the publication and a gallery exhibit in the Viking Union Gallery.
“Jeopardy Magazine is Western’s annual showcase publication of literary and fine arts. Available each spring, Jeopardy contains the best prose, poetry, comics, creative non-fiction, scripts, fine arts, and photography Western has to offer, plus much more.” The first submission deadline is December 4, 2010, and the final deadline is Winter Quarter.
