Photos of Mars

You can find photography in the most surprising places. I was checking the weather report this morning and these images popped up on weather.com. These pictures were taken by High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera. Technology is fascinating.

I can’t believe the composition and contrast in this one. Was it all by chance?

Fellow Student Inspiration

I went to high school with Paige Ormiston and now she is also a student here at WWU. She does some beautiful portraiture and I’m always amazed at the shots she gets around campus. She’s pretty good with photoshop too. Check out her flickr and website here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/potentiallypaige http://cargocollective.com/potentiallypaige

Frederick Sommer

Garth suggested that I check out Frederick Sommer for his amazing textures in photography and they are indeed amazing! Although some of his subject matter (like road kill) is pretty gross, some of it is presented in such a beautiful way that I can look past the guts and see the beauty in the patterns. I also really enjoy his use of texture in portraiture as a background and as a double exposure.

Reading Response for Practice 1

The reading was very clear and informative. As someone who hasn’t had much experience with different kinds of cameras, I really liked the thorough descriptions and explanations of camera parts and their functions; I now have a better understanding of some of the parts of my DSLR. I also thought it was interesting to learn about some of the effects that can be created using Photoshop and how they are created.
