Ari Marcopoulos is a photographer who was born in amsterdam, Netherlands in 1957 and lives and works in Sonoma, CA.  His work has been published in American Photo magazine.  He printed photographs for Andy Warhol; where he began being involved in the arts.  His work has been on the cover of the Beastie Boys album III Communication.  Not only is he a photographer, but he has directed numerous short films.

Here is the website that goes to the Deutsche Börse Group page.  The Deutsche Börse Photography Prize aims to reward a contemporary photographer of any nationality, who has made the most significant contribution (exhibition or publication) to the medium of photography in Europe in the previous year.

Pieter Hugo is a South African photographer and is one of the artists shortlisted for the Deutsche Borse Photography prize.  His work is very controversial and some can be horrific to look at.  I would recommend looking at his body of work.  This is from his series Hyena men.
