Whatcom Youth Pride – 330

Formed in late 2018/early 2019, volunteers that comprise the Whatcom Youth Pride Coalition (WYPC) – school staff and educators, parents, and community members – came together with a shared goal of finding ways to celebrate and show support to LGBTQIA+ youth in Whatcom County.

In June 2019, the WYPC hosted one of the nation’s first all-youth Pride Parade and Festivals. LGBTQIA+ youth, allies, and their families marched along a short parade route while the community lined the streets with signs and shouts of support. The day culminated in a large festival with LGBTQIA+ youth-focused or allied organizations tabling, food trucks, and a youth-led drag and talent show.

Derailed a bit by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, and, for the safety of the community, still avoiding most large in-person gatherings as of June 2021, the WYPC continues to work with its community partners to find innovative ways to celebrate LGBTQIA+ youth in Whatcom County.

This is more of a background theme, however, as each of my three novellas available for sale focus on a different Lost Colony in this universe, a Human settlement that has been cut off from the rest of civilization for centuries. Each stands alone and provides a unique experience.

TTRPG Game: PBTA – Headspace: Shared-Consciousness Cyberpunk

Headspace is a shared-consciousness cyberpunk TTRPG system rooted in PBTA and written by Mark Richardson. In the Headspace, up to six player characters share skills and memories. While each player begins as a master of their – and their teammates’s – craft, using the skills of their comrades may inflict emotional stress on their shared system and reveal character secrets. Taking place in a cyberpunk dystopia, the shared consciousness must work together to dismantle the corporations that have seized control of the world.

CWs: Headspace is a game about trauma and lived experience, and players should understand that their characters or teammates’ characters may express difficulty processing grief and regret. There are opportunities for body horror and body humor. Capitalism and climate change are both relevant topics in the game. The players and GM will establish ground rules at the top of the game.
