Western Scream Queen's icon. A drawing of a green hand emerging from the ground in front of a gravestone, with a limp (queer indicative) wrist. A rainbow w/ pink, purple, green, and yellow stripes is above the gravestone.

Western Scream Queens

The Western Scream Queens create a space where queers who love horror can gather and discuss their interests without judgment.

We’ve always believed in the inherent value and queerness of horror in that it can tackle the issues other genres cannot and represent the “Other” like, none other. Queerness finds a safe place in that “Other” and many people have found a safe place within horror fandom. The Western Scream Queens meet every Thursday of the academic quarter wherein we watch a horror movie and then discuss Queer representation and symbolism while taking a deep dive into queer influence of the genre. Our intention is to build a safe, fun, and inclusive community at WWU. All are welcome.
