Help Wanted!

QueerCon is 100% student and volunteer-run, so in order to make it happen, we need people who can dedicate time to helping us out. Right now we have quite a few positions open and are looking for WWU students to join our team. Below are short descriptions of each position were are currently hoping to fill. Day-Of-Event Volunteers

QueerCon needs Day-Of-Event volunteers.  Volunteer registration is open until Friday, April 5th at 11:59 PM. Sign up to volunteer here! (link)

  • Set-up and Take-down
    • Set-up and Take-down Staff are primarily responsible for helping to set up and move tables and chairs, posting signage on walls and doors, and assisting set-up and room reconfiguration in the main convention hall and panel rooms, and for stocking staff break room and quiet room supplies. Staff roles include 2 – 2.5 hour shifts, with options to work mornings before the convention opens at noon, after the main convention hall closes at 5, or after the 18+ after-hours events conclude at 8 pm.
  • Discord Moderators
    • Chat moderators work in time blocks of about two hours and are responsible for keeping panel chats and the Discord clean of inappropriate behaviour and language as well as reporting harassment and discrimination.
  • Panel and Presentation Moderators
    • Panel & presentation mods are responsible for keeping events in the panel rooms on schedule and introducing the names of panelists and their presentations. For panels and Q&A, moderators may also organize attendee questions for the presenter or panelists. For hybrid events, some moderators will be tasked with moderating the Zoom meetings for panels, and will work together with other room mods to keep the hybrid event running safely and smoothly.
  • Quiet Room Moderator
    • Quiet Room Moderators work in 3-hour shifts and are responsible for maintaining the room as an environment that is quiet and not overstimulating. Ensure that guests in the Quiet Room are not raising their voices, playing loud sounds or music, or running around. Mods must also help maintain a safe environment by reporting any harassment and discrimination.
  • Game Room Moderator
    • Game Room Moderators work in time blocks of 2 – 3 hours and are responsible for helping run our table-top and board game rooms. Mods must also help maintain a safe environment by reporting any harassment and discrimination.
  • Staff Break Room Moderator
    • Staff Break Room Moderators work in 3-hour shifts and are responsible for making sure only QueerCon staff and volunteers, security, vendors and verified tablers, panelists, event performers, and game masters enter the break room, and keep food and beverages inside the break room.

Future Student Co-director / Leadership of QueerCon

If you are interested in taking a leadership / co-leadership position to so QueerCon can happen in the future, we want to meet you today!  Without student leadership every year, QueerCon cannot renew its AS club membership, so if you want to help this event to continue into 2024, start talking with our current leadership in 2023 to get a better idea of the months of planning and processes needed to make a major campus event like this happen!

Outreach Team

Join our writing team!  Leading up to the event, we need to respond to emails from people who have registered as an exhibitor or presenter at QueerCon, but even before that we also need to start reaching out to donors, potential keynote presenters, and local businesses and vendors.  The outreach coordinator is responsible for reaching out to potential artists / exhibitors / panelists / etc. for the event.

Publicity Coordinator

The publicity coordinator is part of the Outreach Team and takes lead in making sure posters and flyers are distributed.

Copy Writer

Join our writing team!  We need to send out blurbs to newspapers and digital news organizations advertising ourselves. Much of our writing is completed collaboratively, and we support each other and improve our writing skills in the process.  If you enjoy copyediting and helping to craft ad copy and promotion, we’d love for you to join the team!

Finance Officer/AS Liaison 

The finance officers / AS Liaison (AKA Treasurer or Co-Treasurer) is responsible for keeping track of the club finances, helping with fundraisers, and communicating with the AS.  To take this role, you must be a current WWU student.

Accessibility Advisor

The accessibility advisor helps makes sure our event is open to as many people as we can.  Help us make policies that include everyone.  Reach out to the DAC to brainstorm accessibility accommodations.

Social Media Manager / Team

The Social Media Team / manager is responsible for posting advertisements and updates on our QueerCon social media accounts.  You can make the media and text to post yourself, or you can work with the Media Design team and Copy Writer and Outreach Teams to support your role.  

Media Design Team

Do you have experience in designing insta posts, flyers, making OC character art, or working with other media?  Our media designers are responsible for designing graphics, social media images, and assisting the publicity coordinator with posters.

Website Team

Join our Website Team!  We make sure the QueerCon website is up-to-date and edit registration forms and pages around various QueerCon registration deadlines. Must be current WWU student to have this role.

Video Editor

The video editor is responsible for editing the recordings of convention panels and posting them on YouTube.
