Here is the schedule of panels, talks, and events we have planned for QueerCon 2022, which is being held as an in-person and hybrid event this year!  

Zoom links to the panel rooms will be sent to advance ticketholders.  Panel talk links will also be posted to our Discord server in the #happening-now channel under the “Welcome to QueerCon!” category.  All talks, panels, and special events will have closed captioning enabled.

          There are a lot of stories about LGBTQ+ people in mythology that aren’t as well known as their straight and cis counterparts. Erin shows us some of these queer tales while giving us a tour of the stars and planets.

      • A queer ecojustice documentary, followed by Q&A panel with the creators and co-hosted by the WWU Queer Ecojustice Club

          From Fire & Flood about page: “Fire & Flood: Queer Resilience in the Era of Climate Change tells the story of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico and the fires in Santa Rosa, California, two-near simultaneous climate-related disasters in the fall of 2017, through the voices of LGBTQ people who lived through them and were part of the community response. The film explores the vulnerability of LGBTQ communities to climate disasters and also lifts up queer and trans strategies for resilience, transition, and survival.” The screening will be followed by a panel and Q&A with some of the creators of the documentary and members of the WWU Queer Ecojustice Club.           Whether it is poetry, music, performance, or reading, you are invited to join us for a queer-themed open mic during the final hour of the convention. 
          You can register by 5pm on Friday, April 29 for a guaranteed space in the roster, or you can sign up at the check-in tables, first come, first served for the time remaining.

          This panel returns for 2022.  Most underrepresented scholarships and initiatives in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) focus on supporting and empowering women, leaving some of us to wonder, “Where do I fit in?” “Do I misgender myself, or lose funding opportunities?” Join us for a discussion about being left out of the underrepresented gender conversations (and funding), and ways in which we can increase inclusion for all underrepresented genders in STEM.

          This talk discussed the importance Of LGBTQ+ representation in public education. This will discuss what policies related to LGBTQ+ topics apply in what states, the effects of discrimination, and how to improve the school system for LGBTQ+ students.

          Joelle Brooke has been traveling around the continent as an exhibitor at various conventions selling DnD dice these past few years. Noticing a lack of honest conversation around the BTS of how these events are run, Joelle is here to help bring some honest yet light-hearted insight to this nerd-based business, from the costs of living on the road full time, meeting your heroes, the Black Friday: Extreme Chaos Edition each show brings, navigating mental health, and the complicated monetization of the LGBTQ+ community.
          All questions are welcome and encouraged!
