Journal Entry #4

Who have you reached out to for resources and support?

  • I happened to befriend the CEO/Owner of kombucha town when I was first getting my supplies, he gave me some free scoby for brewing, as well as his phone number to call him for interviews or tips. I called him the first time earlier this week on Wednesday and he offered me a part-time job at kombucha town, so I can learn to brew/ferment properly.

How are you doing with evidence and customer discovery? Need support? If so, who will you connect with?

  • Don’t need any support. I feel great, I have my work cut out for me I just need to keep working to deliver through on my overall plan.

What have you learned in the last week about coaching?

  • In class? Don’t think I learned anything regarding coaching. I feel that I have a good grip on the class material as an E4 now.

What might you apply to your relationships?

  • Within my venture? I will show that I am a hard worker and eager to learn/create.

How might you apply this week’s learnings to your venture?

  • The only thing I will apply is the Design Thinking model we briefly touched on at the end of class on Wednesday. I will design my pitch around it.

Journal Entry #3

How have you deepened your understanding of business research, empathy and alignment?

I cannot say that I have learned anything new in this class that would deepen my understanding in those 3 categories, just because this is my 4th time going through the class work. I feel that I am deepening my understanding in all three of those categories by pursuing my venture project.

How does IdeaGrit and Major Definite Purpose resonate with you right now?

Reminds me of what to stay focused on within my own venture and recognize the importance of certain aspects more than others.

How might you apply this week’s learnings to your venture?

Get a good JTBD statement down for my VPC, as well as something to reference the rest of this year while pursuing my project.

Journal Entry #2

How are you feeling in the process of self discovery and venture formation?

  • I am feeling good, I have a better idea of what I want to do for my venture and I plan to get started on it more this week.

What have you learned about SWOT and Pestle?

  • I can’t say I have learned too much more than what I already knew. I actually just finished going over SWOT and PESTLE again my management class, so I feel that I have a pretty good understanding of both models.

How might you apply this week’s learnings to your venture?

  • When we were talking about what sparks us I thought on that a little further and even went into more detail about the sparks with professor Sherwood in our coaching meeting, these new sparks that I am starting to recognize is what I will take with me going into this new venture.

Something I did outside of E&I this week.

  • I was able to make some time on Wednesday to get outside and go for a hike which was really nice, and one of my housemates parents came to visit and brought his dog up to hang out with us for the weekend which was cool.

Inspector Gadget

For this quarter we were tasked with coming up with a Halloween costume. My group and I had a lot of fun with this VP1. We had the idea of doing something funny that also served a practical purpose, with the help of our pre-prototype interviews and our survey we came up with the inspector gadget as seen in the photo. It is a goofy and strange costume that is sure to make people laugh, we added retractable key chains on the costume, it is up to the consumer how they choose to use the key chains. Not only are the key chains funny, but they serve as a practical solution to storage on Halloween costumes. Please check out our google drive to see our work!

Journal Entry #1

How are you preparing for success this quarter?

  • Making sure I stay on top of all my work, this class is not my main challenge, but keeping all my other classes in check while doing work in this class will be the main challenge. I just need to study a lot.

What do you expect for E-level  journey this quarter?

  • To hopefully come up with a great idea for my E4-E6 venture.

How might you apply this week’s learnings to your venture?

  • Not too sure, this is my 4th VP1. As much as I enjoyed it, I cannot say I really learned too much new information this past week.

What did you love this week?

  • Pitching in person was a lot of fun and this quarters VP1 prompt was cool.

What would you have loved to have achieved this week?

  • I would have liked to be a little more prepared for our pitch.

Please share your personal experiences and the lessons you learned from completing VP1 this quarter?

  • That pitching in person is fun! I have only pitched online, so this was a great learning experience.

How may they help you have a successful and fulfilling VP2?

  • They? I am not too sure. I have my times scheduled with Art to help me with my VP2 which will be a lot of help.

How will you put that into action?

  • By going to my meetings and staying focused on my school work, no slacking off.

What challenges are you facing? What’s Next?

  • Coming up with an idea for VP2, I fear it will be hard to go all in on a venture with my current work load of 19 credits this quarter. Brainstorming is next.

Something outside of E&A that I did this week?

  • I just got back to Bellingham last week and it has been a lot of fun to see all my friends.

Neko Cat Cafe Event VP2

This quarter my group and I planned a networking event! We got the idea to have a class hangout at the Neko Cat Cafe in Bellingham, in order for our class to get to know each other a little better! Check out our process throughout the quarter in the google drive below! Thanks!

Journal Entry #10

How did this quarter go for you?

It went okay, not really a fan of the structure behind the event VP2. I wish I could have done more of a innovated VP2 where I get more practice coming up with business models.

What did you love?

Not really sure if I loved anything, but I liked getting an event idea set in place that was reliving.

What do you wish would have gone differently?

Definitely how the event VP2 went. I think we had a few variables not in our favor with the whole process.

Journal Entry #9

How did your pitch go?

It went great I thought! We did not get any significant negative feedback which was good!

What do you need to do from now until VP2 is due?

Just get together to record our LJV, organize the drive, and draft up our business report! After this is all done we just have to turn it in and make a blog post.

What feedback did you receive?

Mostly positive, I think the only feedback I found important was to add a financials slide. We did not have any financials so I did not put it, but I think it would have been cool to add the slide showing we did not need to raise any money and we got it all for free. I think it would have made our project look a bit better.

Outside of E&I this week

I had a great week! My housemate Andrew was the last to turn 21 out of the 6 of us this Thursday so we had a great time at the royale downtown signing some karaoke! Other than that I went to Lummi island with my girlfriend which was fun!

Journal Entry #8

What are you going to do to exceed the standards this quarter? Why does it matter to you?

Make sure our group does a good job organizing the evidence locker, we met all requirements and continue to add more, and we do a good job on our final pitch.

What jumps out to you in the rubric?

I worry that it is not up to date and we will potentially be marked down in some categories just because we did not know. For example we just learned at rehearsals that we can go over 5 minutes on the pitch, and it even says in the rubric that our pitch needs to be 5 minutes for the E3’s. As long as that does not give us any grading issues then that should be fine.

Between now and Final Pitches, what traction steps do you need to make?  Where could you use support?

Don’t need any support we are all set and know exactly what needs to be done this week.

Outside of E&I this week?

First off I would like to thank all the students who came out for our event! it was awesome to see everyone, and we really appreciate people showing up! Other than the E3 event this week I went to deception pass which was really cool!

Journal Entry #7

What did you love this week?

The networking event was a lot of fun and really nice to get some insightful advice from people who have been successful.

What resonated with you in workshops?

Getting to build new connections with the community coaches and ask some questions that helped me out a lot.

How might you apply this week’s learnings to your venture?

Not too sure honestly, at this point everything about our venture is locked in, so we do not have too many major aspects to change.

What did you learn in shift and share- what did you love, what would you have loved to see?

Learned more about credit from sawyer which was nice. Not sure what else I would have loved to see I think all 3 of the E4’s did their best.

What does excellence look like for you and your team? What’s needed to get from here to there?

Excellence for us would look like, having a good event that everybody enjoyed, and getting the grade we desire. What we need? A solid pitch, and make sure we get enough post prototype interviews in the short time after our event is actually done.

Outside of E&I this week.

It was nice to finally get some sun? Did a lot of biking this week and an old friend gave my housemates and I his old blow up pool! We had some friends over Friday afternoon and got to sit in our little pool haha nothing to fancy, but it was fun!
